Guidance: Employers guide to creating a dementia-friendly workplace
The Alzheimer’s Society have produced a practical guide for employers which provides tips on how to make the working environment more dementia friendly.
The guide, ‘Creating a dementia-friendly workplace: A practical guide for employers’, sets out the best practice for businesses. Employers can expect to see a range of benefits including: staff retention; development of empowering and inclusive policies and cultures in the workplace; and importantly ensure employers are fulfilling their legal responsibilities outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
This includes tips on considering premises from a dementia-friendly perspective, encouraging open dialogue and using terminology. It also includes a guide for managers on how to give support for a colleague with dementia divided into three phases:
- Supporting employees in the early stages of dementia
- Ongoing support and management
- Leaving work
The guide includes examples of scenarios, case studies and a section on making reasonable adjustments. Click the link below to download.
