Israel and Palestine social work field trip open to Liverpool Hope students
This week a group of 10 students from the Department of Social Work, Care and Justice at Liverpool Hope University are on a field trip visit to Israel and Palestine and plans for a future trip in 2016 are underway.
The current trip has been organised by Professor Michael Lavalette and will introduce students to the range of complex issues affecting this part of the world.
The itinerary for the trip includes a visit to the Holocaust Museum, Yad Vishem, a tour of the Old City in Jerusalem and eight days spent on the West Bank living with refugee families in Tulkarem. The group will visit Jenin, Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem and Ramallah; where there is a planned meeting with Palestinian President Mamoud Abbas.
The group will focus particularly on the experience of Palestinian refugees who have been living in refugees camps on the West Bank since the late 1940s. In Jenin and Nablus the social work students will look at a disability and youth project and the difficulties of meeting people’s complex needs in the context of military occupation.
On the last day of the trip the students will be undertaking work with children in the Tulkarem refugee camp before returning to the UK on Thursday 2nd April.
