Social worker struck off for ‘dishonesty, misconduct and lack of competence’

Social worker Jaswir Nagra has been suspended from the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Register for dishonesty, misconduct and a lack of competence while working for Tower Hamlets Council.

The HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee panel heard that Ms Nagra had demonstrated a lack of awareness of safeguarding issues, created documents dishonestly, did not update plans, misled colleagues and failed to escalate or report service user cases when necessary.

The panel also heard she showed a flagrant disregard for the needs of vulnerable service users for whom she was responsible for.

Panel Chair Rachel O’Connell commented: “The Panel has found that the Registrant’s course of conduct is long standing, serious and has not been remediated.

“The most important and basic aspect of a social worker’s role is to safeguard vulnerable service users. The registrant failed to protect young people in her care and left them at significant risk.

“These matters are too serious to be addressed by a caution given the extent of the misconduct and the risk of repetition.”

The Panel decided the most appropriate action was to strike Jaswir Nagra from the Register with an Interim Suspension Order in place to cover the appeal period.

Ms Nagra was not present or represented at the hearing.
