North Lanarkshire nursery wins inspectors praise

A nursery in Cumbernauld has been praised by inspectors after scoring top marks across the board in two consecutive inspections.

Step-by-Step nursery was graded excellent across all quality themes for the second inspection in a row following an unannounced visit.

The nursery is registered to provide a day-care service for up to 41 children from birth to primary school age.

A report of the most recent inspection noted that: “the manager and staff had created a very happy, welcoming and fun environment for children. The manager and staff had formed excellent relationships with the children and parents. They worked closely with parents and other specialist services to help achieve excellent outcomes for the children attending the nursery.”

Inspectors added: “The children were seen to eagerly take part in and enjoy the wide range of activities on offer. Staff showed a high commitment to continuing to develop their skills and knowledge through accessing training and shared practice, with the excellent support of the manager, in order to enhance the children’s experiences while they attend the nursery.”

A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “Every child in Scotland has the right to good quality, compassionate care which meets their needs and respects their rights.

“The majority of nurseries in Scotland perform well, and where we encounter excellence, it is vital we share good practice so that all care services in Scotland continue to improve and reach the high standards we expect.”

Step by Step Nurseries have been providing childcare in the west of Scotland since January 1998, running three nurseries and an out of school club.
