Care home arrest after staff and residents take ill

Police have made an arrest after several people from a care home in West Bromwich were taken ill with symptoms similar to food poisoning.

The arrest was made at Goldfield Court and Police are working with health workers and social services from Sandwell Council following the incident yesterday.

Speaking to local newspaper the Express and Star, West Midlands Police spokeswoman Keiley Gartland said: “Further tests and enquires are underway to determine the exact nature and cause of the illness. An individual has been arrested and is currently assisting the police with their enquires.

“Anyone with information in relation to the investigation should contact Sandwell Police by dialling 101, anyone with any concerns should contact the extra care unit.”

Goldfield Court is described as ‘extra care housing’ for older people, and features 93 flats as well as a garden and restaurant.

The development also includes a hair salon, guest suite, activity room and communal landscaped gardens.

It was built in 2012 and is run by Housing & Care 21.
