Inspectors tell North Ayrshire children’s club to improve
A North Ayrshire out of school care service has been given recommendations for improvement after it was graded ‘weak’ for the quality of care and support it provides to children.
Scotland’s social care regulator, the Care Inspectorate, made the recommendations after an unannounced inspection at Towerlands Cottages Nursery and Schools Out Club in Irvine.
It is the second inspection in a row where the service has been graded ‘weak’ – the second lowest possible grade – for the care and support it provides to children.
In the report on the inspection, inspectors noted that legal requirements for improvement made at a previous inspection had been met.
The report noted: “The acting manager and staff members were eager to make the necessary improvements to provide positive outcomes for the children using the service.
“They had started to do so in the weeks between the previous inspection and this second inspection visit.
“The service’s grades remain the same at this time and will be reassessed at a third inspection visit.”
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: “Where we have concerns about a service we don’t hesitate to act and we are pleased to note that legal requirements for improvement made at an earlier inspection have been met.
“However, further improvements are needed and we continue to work closely with this service to ensure the care provided to children meets the standards we expect.”
