Inspectors issue improvement notice to Aberdeen nursery
The Care Inspectorate has served a formal improvement notice on an Aberdeen nursery and it must now demonstrate significant improvement or face further action.
The notice follows an inspection at All Stars Nursery in the city which raised a number of concerns.
The report said youngsters had easy access to full nappy bins and high chairs and baby walkers had food stuck to them. There was also no handwash in the kitchen as staff had “borrowed” it.
A baby was also seen sleeping on a mat next to a plastic bag which the report said put the child at risk.
Inspectors also discovered the acting manager was not registered with the Scottish Social Services Council, the regulatory body for all care service workers.
Nursery staff were also told they must ensure children and fed and watered and be allowed to sleep when they are tired, among other recommendations.
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: “Our inspection raised several areas of significant concern. The service must now demonstrate that the health and welfare needs of children are identified and met in a sensitive and caring manner.
“The service must also ensure that risks to the safety of children attending the nursery are identified and managed effectively. We have been working closely with this service and have been inspecting it frequently since taking earlier enforcement action.
“However, the service has been unable to sustain the improvements we require, and it is for this reason we have issued this improvement notice.
“Every child in Scotland has the right to safe, compassionate care which meets their needs and respects their rights.
“Where we have concerns we do not hesitate to take action.
“Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of children and this improvement notice sets out what we expect the service to do to ensure that the care provided to children improves.
“We will be inspecting this service again soon to ensure that progress is being made.”
