Essex County Council to recieve £450K for social care pilot

Essex County Council (ECC) has announced that the Health Foundation, an independent charity has awarded the authority £450k funding for a social care scheme.

The funding is for a two year pilot scheme which aims to improve safety, reduce harm and emergency hospital admissions primarily from falls, pressure ulcers and catheter infections, for care-home residents across north east and west Essex.

The project looks to build on the skills of those working in care homes to implement change and build a safety culture.

Twenty one care homes from north east and west Essex have signed up for the first cohort of the project.

Cllr Anne Brown, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Improving the lives of residents is a clear priority for the council and innovative new schemes such as this demonstrate our commitment to ensuring people get the support they need and the improvements in health care that they are entitled to.

“I’m delighted that the project has been so well received by our Essex care homes and I look forward to seeing the results.”

The project is being developed in partnership with Essex County Council, University College London Partners (UCLP) and Essex Care homes, and is one of 10 nationwide projects to be funded.

It is the first time the Health Foundation has funded a social care project.
