Body of elderly woman found after Aberystwyth sheltered flat fire

Firefighters have discovered the body of an elderly woman following a blaze in a ground floor flat at a sheltered home.

The fire at Glyn Padarn, Llanbadarn Fawr in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, started just before 20:30 BST on Tuesday.

Mid and West Wales Fire Rescue discovered the woman inside.

Twenty seven other residents, some who were confined to bed or disabled, were initially evacuated from the building but most have now returned to the home.

Arwel James, fire station manager in Aberystwyth, told Radio Wales’ Oliver Hides when crews arrived flames were coming out of the flat’s window.
