Doors open to state-of-the-art North London care home

Camden Council in partnership with home care provider Shaw Healthcare has welcomed the first residents to a brand new care home, Maitland Park.
The new north London home, the first to be completed under a £25m “homes for older people scheme” will provide accommodation for 60 residents. The purpose-built home offers rooms with en-suite bathrooms, guest rooms for relatives, an activity room, exercise area, café and beauty salon. A second home is planned for nearby Wellesley Road, which will replace a run-down centre on the same site.

As part of the Maitland Park complex, 35 self-contained, extra-care sheltered housing flats for people who are able to live independently with support are also being provided. All the flats have their own front doors and care staff are on hand 24 hours a day.

Maitland Park resident with Cllr Pat Callaghan Councillor Pat Callaghan, deputy leader of Camden Council and cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Maitland Park is a beacon of how facilities for older people should be designed and built.

“Through constant engagement with residents-to-be and their families, we have been able to deliver a home that provides state-of-the-art facilities, extra care sheltered housing and a range of services to make this the jewel in Camden’s crown.

“While many of the residents already know each other from previous care homes in Camden, there is a real sense of a micro-community forming and it will be interesting to see how this continues to develop.”

Jeremy Nixey, CEO of Shaw Healthcare said: “I would like to thank Camden for having the vision to create such an extraordinary facility for their residents and thank all involved for helping us to make that vision the reality it is today. I think that the residents have a home that they can be very proud of.”

Shaw Healthcare has a 30-year, £122m contract to deliver services to all Camden Council care homes.
