NSPCC reports a £6.3m fall in income in the year to March 2013

The children’s charity’s annual report reveals that its income fell to £129.4m and its spending was £122.3m
The NSPCC’s income fell by £6.3m to £129.4m during the year until March 2013, according to its annual report and accounts published last week.

The bulk of its income, £110.7m, came from voluntary income. The charity said that this fell by £3.7m, with most of the reduction coming from a reduction in regular giving.

Income from charitable activities – mostly grant and contract income from local and central government – fell by £2.1m to £9m.

The charity spent £122.3m during the year, the annual report shows. Direct charitable activities accounted for £96.5m, or 78.9 per cent of the charity’s spending.

The charity’s unrestricted general reserves were £49.6m, in line with the charity’s target to hold between three and five months of income in reserve.

The highest-paid member of staff was paid between £160,000 and £170,000, and 52 members of staff were paid more than £60,000.
