1000 jobs could face axe at Glasgow City Council
SCOTLAND’S largest council is expected to axe one thousand jobs as it looks to save close to £50m from its budget over the next two years.
The authority, which has shed 3000 staff since 2010, will attempt to cut £48.8m in expenditure between 2013 and 2015.
Social work and education alongside joint ventures with the private sector on road and lighting projects are expected to be targeted, according to reports.
Staff and councillors are expected to be briefed today on the cuts.
Glasgow City Council, which has avoided compulsory redundancies so far, is expected to appeal for 1000 volunteers for the latest round of job cuts.
