NMC to share information with Scottish social care regulator

A new information-sharing agreement between the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Scottish health and social care regulator will help protect patients from substandard nursing care, according to the two bodies.

The Memorandum of Understanding formalises the organisations’ commitment to working together and share information about serious failings in nursing care.

The document will help ensure concerns about the conduct of individual nurses and midwives and nursing leadership are always passed on to the NMC.

Meanwhile, the NMC will continue to highlight wider concerns about systems and standards of care to the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care.

“By working together we can effectively mitigate potential risks to people using the services of nurses and midwives in Scotland,” the organisations said in a joint statement.

The NMC already has similar agreements with other UK regulators including the Care Quality Commission and General Medical Council and bodies such as the Crown Prosecution Service.
