Dad slams car into social work office on day son is taken into care
A DISTRAUGHT dad ram-raided a social work office yesterday after his son was taken into care. The man is said to have snapped after pleading in vain with social workers to reunite him with the boy.
Witnesses said he jumped into his Renault Clio and rammed it at a large plate glass window in the building in Milngavie, near Glasgow.
The car was a write-off and police were called to the scene by East Dunbartonshire Council staff.
One witness said: “The guy was out of control. “He was ranting and raving about how his son had been taken away from him.
“He kept screaming that his son was only four.
“The impact was stopped a bit by the kerb and the wall beneath the glass. It’s a miracle he didn’t go straight through.”
Another bystander said: “After he crashed the car, he just sat there shaking and waited for the police.
“One of the staff came and put a blanket over him and he was arrested.
“By that time, people had gathered to watch what the commotion was about.”
The incident happened just before 4pm.
A police spokesman said: “A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged disturbance. The man is expected to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today on breach of the peace and traffic charges.”
