Social Worker Suspended After Being Caught In Romp With Convict During Perth Prison Visit
A SOCIAL worker has been suspended after she was caught in a “steamy embrace” with a prisoner.
Security staff at Perth Prison were left gobsmacked when they stumbled upon the pair romping in a private interview room. The pair were enjoying their passionate clinch during an official visit when they were discovered.
Staff raised the alarm, the couple were separated and the prisoner was marched back to his cell.
Yesterday, bosses at Perth and Kinross Council confirmed the female social worker was immediately suspended and an investigation had been launched.
A council insider said: “They weren’t having full sex but there was absolutely no doubt what was going on.
“They were definitely heavy petting and in the middle of a steamy and passionate embrace when they were discovered.
“Clothes and underwear weren’t where they should have been and, if they’d been missed by the guards, who knows what would have developed?”
She added: “What has shocked everyone is that they must have known that there was a good chance they’d be found.
“Even though they were in a private interview room, the corridor is always patrolled in case of any bother with a prisoner and a visiting member of staff.
“If it’s proved the affair has been going on for a while and there’s any CCTV footage to back it up, then the social worker’s not got much hope.
“Relationships between prisoners and staff are strictly frowned upon.”
Last night, a prison insider said: “Prisoners can be very manipulative and, because they have regular and close contact with their social workers, these incidents can happen from time to time – especially if they’ve been locked up for a while and their urges get the better of them.”
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We can confirm that a member of staff has been suspended and an investigation has been launched. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this stage.”
Prison chiefs also said they were investigating.
Last year, lawyer Angela Baillie was sentenced to 32 months in jail for handing over heroin to client Peter McConville.
Baillie – nicknamed Ally McDeal – was caught at Glasgow’s Barlinnie prison in October 2005.
