Care Worker In Court Over Child Sex Charges

A care worker from Edinburgh has appeared in court in Albania facing child sex charges. David Brown has spent more than a year in prison in the Albanian capital, Tirana.

He said he discovered children were being abused in the orphanage he ran, but did not contact police amid fears the home would be closed down.

Mr Brown confirmed his name and address, and that he understood the charges, when he appeared in court on Thursday. His next appearance is scheduled for November 1.

Two men, who were named by children as their abusers, are due to attend an extradition hearing in London, on October 25.

Former volunteer care worker Allyson McGregor told the Evening News about visiting the 56-year-old prisoner in jail in April.

Ms McGregor claimed he had been wrongly accused after finding out children in the home had been abused.

She said Mr Brown spends 23 hours a day in his small cell, with just one hour outside in the exercise yard.
