Care Booking System Within ECC To Support 100% Care Bed Occupancy

Edinburgh City Council, is the first customer of OLM Group’s new online care booking system. Called Care Booking, the e-booking system allows staff to track, monitor, commission and report on the usage of block contracted care beds in the locality, helping authorities to optimise occupancy.

The system also assists local authorities with future commissioning strategies via a reporting centre which gives information on items such as: unmet need, potential cost of unmet need, reasons for unused beds and actual cost of unused beds. A number of pre-written reports are available.

Gordon Fraser, Business Performance Manager for Community Care at Edinburgh Council said: “Our drive to increase the use of short-break facilities in Edinburgh means we have a need for a robust and accessible system. We introduced an in-house
database in September 2006, which has already increased occupancy from 58% to 70%, but this system has limitations.

“We already use OLM’s bettercaring online vacancy management service BEDVACS, so it was a logical step forward for us to use Care Booking to help us manage our short-break commissioning. The new system will save us time and help us towards our goal of 100% occupancy.”

Anna Bailey, Head of bettercaring said: “The system offers the ultimate support for the management of contracted care provision. It caters for short term, long term or even day care commissioning. This launch marks a significant milestone for OLM and those operating across contracted care provision, as we work toward driving the care service’s transformation to new levels of efficiency. Our working partnership with Edinburgh is already demonstrating how Care Booking is ultimately changing the way local authorities manage their care bed provision.”

The system matches potential clients that may be suitable for an empty bed, using a set of pre-determined criteria. Other prompts will show users how they are doing against the 100% objective and the cost of unused beds.
