Charity Worker Embezzled £12,500

A former Scottish charity worker has admitted embezzling £12,500 from autism sufferers and their support group.

Kenneth Fulton, 41, admitted stealing the money from the Scottish Society for Autism between November 2003 and April 2005.

He had worked as an area administrator with the society at its offices in Roslin, Midlothian.

Fulton, of Perth, admitted the offence at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

David Heaney, the director of the society, said : “We immediately notified the police when it came to light that funds had been embezzled, and instructed our external auditors to carry out a full investigation.

“While we believe that this was an isolated incident, we take it extremely seriously and want to reassure our service users, their families and our supporters that we are determined to ensure that no repeat of this type of incident occurs.”
