Foster Carers Raise Allegation Concerns
Foster carers in Glasgow are refusing to take on new children until concerns are addressed over the way allegations against them are dealt with.
The Glasgow Foster Care Association (GFCA) claimed increasing numbers of carers were facing prosecution due to failures of the social work department.
It said the situation was unacceptable and an urgent solution was needed.
Glasgow City Council said it took its obligations to carers seriously and it was not aware of any prosecution rise.
A spokesman added: “The concerns raised will be properly and fully considered.”
A Scottish Executive spokesman said the issue was being considered as part of a national fostering strategy launched last December.
He said: “The consultation has ended but it will be for the new administration to decide how that will be taken forward.”
However, the GFCA – a network of about 100 carers – said a new national agreement could take up to two years to complete.
