Officers probe death of Derbyshire care home resident
POLICE have launched an investigation into the death of an 80-year-old resident in a county care home.
Derbyshire Police have confirmed that the cause of the death at the Milford House care home was still unknown after a post-mortem examination proved “inconclusive”.
A spokesman for the Milford House care home, in Milford, said he believed the death had been “caused by a tragic accident”.
Police were originally called to the care home at 6.50am on Monday, April 9.
The spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of one of our short-term female residents at the Milford House care home on April 9.
“Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the friends and family of the deceased. We believe that the death was caused by a tragic accident.
“We are co-operating fully with the police, coroner’s office and Amber Valley health and safety team and we are carrying out our own internal investigation.
“Milford House is an award-winning care home and we pride ourselves on the highest quality of care and health and safety.
“Until our investigations and those of the police and health and safety teams are complete we cannot comment any further.”
A spokeswoman from Derbyshire County Council said they were aware of the death.
She said a visit to the care home would be made this week to ensure the safety of the residents that live there.
A spokeswoman from Derbyshire Police confirmed the incident was being investigated by officers and health and safety officials.
She said: “The postmortem exam was inconclusive, so the cause of death is unknown at present.”
The Care Quality Commission said it had been informed of a death of a woman at the home and would await the outcome of any police or coroner’s investigations.
