Taunton’s Northway House warned over standards
A TAUNTON residential home has been ordered to make improvements after regulators uncovered a series of breaches of standards.
Northway House, in Kingston Road, faces “serious consequences” if it fails to address issues identified in an unannounced inspection.
Bosses are confident the required changes will be made after appointing new managers.
The Care Quality Commission issued warning notices after inspectors found Northway was breaching three regulations:
*care plans not containing sufficient or up-to-date information about people’s needs, while risk assessments were inadequate;
*no procedures to ensure the safe management and administration of prescribed medicines, with incomplete records;
*no suitable arrangements for obtaining residents’ consent in relation to their care and treatment.
Ian Biggs, CQC South-West regional director, said: “The law says these are the standards everyone should be able to expect.
“Providers have a duty to ensure they’re compliant.
“This warning sends a clear and public message that North-way House needs to address this issue as a matter of urgency or face serious consequences.”
A Northway spokesman said they have always been committed to providing a level of care which meets residents’ needs.
He added: “We take our responsibilities seriously and have been working hard to bring about the necessary changes which are now expected.
“Additionally, we’ve employed a care home management company to assist in bringing about change and appointed a new, very experienced care manger to implement these changes on a daily basis.
“Northway House is confident the improvements required of it will be made in order to fully comply with the CQC.”
The CQC met with families and residents to discuss the ongoing issues at Taunton Library today (Friday).
