Nottinghamshire County Council care home sales are confirmed

THE SALE of six county council care homes to the private sector has been confirmed after councillors voted in favour of the idea.

Nottinghamshire County Council met last Thursday to discuss the transfer of Maun View, Chesterfield Road South, and five more of its homes across the county.

The authority first announced in the summer it was looking to sell off homes in a bid to reduce costs.

Maun View and the other five centres will now be transferred to Runwood Homes.

Said Coun Kevin Rostance, Cabinet member for adult social care: “We will now work closely with Runwood Homes to ensure the smooth transition of those services.

“We also pledge to keep residents, their relatives and staff informed every step of the way.”

Runwood, which will pay £2.5m for the six homes, will spend £500,000 per home over five years to improve facilities and will have to keep them as care homes for a minimum of three years.

Unions have remained opposed to the move, which also attracted a petition.

After the announcement, Andy Belfield, UNISON regional head of local government, said the group would be calling on the Government to intervene.

“This is simply a bad deal for residents, taxpayers and staff,” he said.
