New £400,000 homeless hostel in Newcastle
Tucked away behind the Salvation Army’s large City Road premises in Newcastle, a new £400,000 eco-friendly hostel which gives homeless and vulnerable adults opened this week.
Named Jubilee View, the state-of-the-art development will act as resettlement housing on a six-month lease for people who have slept rough in the city but are almost ready to move into their own permanent homes.
With a roof decked with dozens of solar panels, a large proportion of power to the rooms will be provided using environmentally-friendly electricity.
Major Robert Davies, the Salvation Army’s Northern Divisional Director for Social Services, said: “This is a state-of-the-art Lifehouse which extends our commitment to providing quality temporary accommodation for the homeless in Newcastle.
“Jubilee View will operate alongside City Road Lifehouse which has been offering beds for the homeless for over 35 years.
“The new facility is a modern centre which complements our existing homeless provision in the city and serves as an inspirational place of change where lives can be transformed for the better.”
