High Court set to hear Shoesmith appeal

Sharon Shoesmith is set to begin her appeal against the High Court ruling that upheld the decision to sack her in the aftermath of the Peter Connelly case.

In April last year, Mr Justice Foskett rejected Shoesmith’s claim for a judicial review against the actions of former Children’s Secretary Ed Balls, Ofsted and Haringey Council following the case.

But last September Shoesmith was given leave to appeal the decision. The Court of Appeal is expected to start considering Shoesmith’s appeal today (28 March).

A statement from Shoesmith’s solicitors Beachcroft LLP stated: “On behalf of our client, counsel will argue that Mr Justice Foskett was wrong to dismiss her claims against the three respondents to the appeal.”

The appeal hearing is expected to last for three days.
