KCC head of adult social services to leave the council after 23 years

THE head of adult social services is to leave Kent County Council after 23 years. Oliver Mills will be leaving the council at the end of March.

His departure comes as KCC adopts a new senior management and organisational structure.

But KCC refused to confirm if Mr Mills’ departure was by way of redundancy or for other reasons.

Mr Mills started work at the council in 1987 and became managing director of Adult Social Services in 2006.

KCC leader Paul Carter said: “Oliver has made a big contribution to the work of Kent County Council and the work of social services across the county is stronger because of his leadership. It is clear if you look at the good reports from the Care Quality Commission that he has made a very positive impact in Kent and I wish him every success with whatever he chooses to do in the future.”

Mr Mills said: “I would like to thank staff and partners organisations for all they have done over the years to deliver social care so professionally and resourcefully. I am very proud of all that has been achieved, and I leave knowing that the way we deliver care and support puts Kent in a very strong position to tackle the challenges ahead. I hope to continue to make a contribution to adult social care as I pursue new opportunities.”
