Abuse protection policy for Jersey’s health and social services
A warning system to protect staff, patients and clients from physical or verbal abuse has been introduced into Jersey General Hospital and clinics.
The four-tier violence and aggression policy has been set up by the States’ health and social services department.
Offenders could receive a verbal or written warning for lesser offences or be refused entry without prior agreement except for emergency care.
Posters telling people about the policy have been put up around the department.
Rose Naylor, Chief Nurse and Head of Governance, said: “This policy is intended to support staff working across the department and address those situations where the patient, client or visitor is aware of their actions and to get across the clear message that this is simply not acceptable.
“Consistent rude and abusive behaviour is not tolerated in other workplaces and it will not be within our services.
“Our staff and those in our care have a right to feel safe and be safe. This has to be a priority for us.”
