Advice event for people with learning disabilities organised in Yorkshire

People with learning disabilities in West Yorkshire are being encouraged to attend an event which will showcase the services available to them.

Called It’s My Health Day, the event has been organised by the NHS and a number of local authorities, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.

People will be provided with advice on a range of topics including healthy eating, exercise and fitness. Hints and tips will also be available on the benefits of creative dance and music therapies, while specific information on diabetes and other chronic conditions will be offered by medical professionals.

Rob Napier, chairman of NHS Kirklees, who will officially open the event, said: “It’s My Health Day promises to be a fun-filled day. As planners and providers of services it’s vital that we listen to those people who use our learning disabilities services.”

Recently, the Department of Social Work and Social Care at the University of Sussex called on people with learning difficulties to take part in a survey which will examine access to care for adults with autism spectrum disorders.
