Children’s Centre Worker Arrested In Drugs Probe

A 65-year-old woman who works at a children’s centre has been arrested by police on suspicion of producing Class A drugs.

The woman, who has not been identified, was arrested at the Northfields and West Humberstone Children’s Centre, in Gypsy Lane, on Tuesday. She has been released on police bail until August.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Constabulary said the woman had been arrested and questioned.

She said: “A 65-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of class A drugs.

“She has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.”

Jo Yeaman, communications director for Leicester City Primary Care Trust, said: “Police have informed us that they are questioning one of our employees.

“In line with our current policy, we have asked the individual not to come into work while the police investigation takes place.

“This action does not in any way indicate that the allegations made towards the employee might be upheld.

“The allegations made do not relate to the employee’s work or workplace.

“However, as we would not wish to interfere with the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to share any more information at this time.

“Alternative arrangements are in place to ensure that the needs of our patients are met as far as possible in the meantime, and we are co-operating fully with the police.”
