New Middlesborough Care Home Gets Planning Permission
Planning consent for a new care home to be built in Middlesbrough has been granted.
But two bungalows planned for the ground of the home have been axed from the plans after members of Middlesbrough Council’s planning committee voiced concerns about their impact on neighbours.
Milbury Voyage is planning to demolish the existing property at Woodlands in Church Road, Acklam and build a new care home.
The ten bedroom care home will accommodate people with acquired brain injury.
The bungalows would have been used as independent living units by people with brain injuries as part of their rehabilitation.
The applicant in a statement said: “The design aims to achieve the appearance of a large detached dwelling.”
A number of local residents objected to the proposal. They claimed the building would not fit in with the area, residents would suffer a loss of privacy, and there would be a loss of trees.
Tony Mason, a nearby resident, said: “We feel the current building is compatible with the area but the new one will not be as compatible.
“The new building will be a 50% increase in size which is significant. It will be much bigger and it will be a different style of building.”
He said residents in nearby bungalows felt their privacy would be affected and it would also reduce light to their properties.
Councillor John McPartland, the planning committee chairman, said the committee had visited the site and he had a problem with the proposed bungalows.
The applicant agreed to withdraw the bungalows from the proposals and the committee approved the plan for the new care home.
