Most Mental Health Nurses Under Excessive Pressure, Finds Survey

More than 60 per cent of mental health nurses say they are under excessive work pressure, according to a survey. A Royal College of Nursing survey of 577 of its members found 61 per cent agreed or strongly agreed with the statement “I am under too much pressure at work”

The survey of nurses working both in the community and in hospital also found 51 per cent of mental health nurses, were too busy to provide the level of care they would like.

Almost three quarters of the nurses said a recruitment freeze and posts left unfilled had been imposed in their work area over the past 12 months.
