HSE To Publish Reports Into Portlaoise Cancer Scandal
The Health Service Executive is due to publish a series of reports today into the cancer misdiagnosis scandal at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
The reports were commissioned after major concerns emerged last year about the accuracy of diagnoses based on mammograms and ultrasound exams.
Hundreds of tests were re-examined and nine women who were initially given the all-clear were subsequently told they actually did have breast cancer.
The reports being published today will detail the events leading up to the errors and the subsequent investigations into the matter.
Reports this morning say the HSE will be criticised over a lack of corporate governance, but no individuals will be publicly censured.
Meanwhile, the HSE has also reportedly invited a consultant radiologist – who was placed on administrative leave during the scandal – to return to work.
