Family Group Decision Making Coordinator – Fixed Term until 30/06/2026
City Wide
Salary: £42,717- £50,550
Hours: 36 per week
The Edinburgh Family Support Partnership is offering an exciting and unique opportunity for applicants to be part of transformational change within the City of Edinburgh. A number of posts are available, which are funded by the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund until 30th June 2026.
The Edinburgh Family Support Partnership is a collaboration between City of Edinburgh Council, Children and Families Social Work, Children 1st, Barnardos, The Citadel Youth Centre, Edinburgh Community Food and Safe Families.
The aim of the collaboration is to develop multi-disciplinary, community-based teams in each of the four localities across the city. We aim to address the “missing middle” between universal and statutory services, offering reflexive whole family support, which is empowering, relationship-based, rooted in GIRFEC and which builds upon existing universal services.
A key element of this innovative project is to develop and embed a Community Social Work approach which enables social workers to be present, visible and accessible within communities. We will work alongside families using asset and strength-based approaches to build individual, family and community capacity.
Family Group Decision Making will be integral to this strength-based approach. Therefore, we are seeking 2 Family Group Decision Making Coordinators to be part of the development of a Whole Family Wellbeing/support approach using FGDM at an early intervention stage.
Role and Tasks
Meet with families and professionals prior to the FGDM meeting, considering complex family dynamics, to prepare children, families and professionals for the FGDM Meeting.
To co-ordinate the FGDM meeting, ensure consensus of the plan and circulate it as required.
Supporting families to share family plans in other meetings such as Hearings and Reviews etc.
To facilitate the meeting positively and sensitively to ensure extended families and friends can meet to address family difficulties using their own experiences, knowledge and strengths.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We’re committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
