Staff at Care Quality Commission to strike in dispute over pay
Workers at the Care Quality Commission are to strike in a dispute over pay.
The Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) said more than 90 of its members employed by the health and adult social care regulator will take action on July 26, 27 and 28.
The union accused the organisation of refusing to pay the Government-recommended, one-off, cost-of-living, crisis payment of £1,500.
PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “Our members are determined to fight for the money they were promised by the Government.
“Our members at the CQC are already feeling the cost-of-living crisis acutely, following years of wage stagnation.
“Their monthly energy bills have doubled since the start of April 2022 and 43.5% of members working there told us they had had to use credit cards/loans to pay for necessities and take on a second job just to survive.
“They can’t afford not to receive this money and will take strike action to ensure they do.”
The CQC said it had formally confirmed to its recognised unions that it will be paying the government-recommended one-off payment of £1,500.
