More than half of workers considering new job, study suggests
UK workforces are in “crisis”, with most people dreading going to their job after a weekend break, a study suggests.
The number of workers feeling unhappy in their job has increased over the past year, with one in four looking for a new job, said Investors in People.
A survey of 12,000 adults by the accreditation organisation indicated that three out of four felt stressed at work, often affecting their sleep.
More than half of those questioned said they would be looking for a new job this year, often because they want more money and a better work/life balance.
One in four of those polled said they stayed in a job because of friends they had made.
Paul Devoy, chief executive of Investors in People, said: “Six years into our job exodus research, we’re still hearing that people want to be told ‘thank you’ and one in four are looking for a new job because they don’t feel valued.
“Thank you, something so simple, so consistently important and potentially the best retention tool we’ve got.
“Doing your best work, knowing you’re in a place where you can grow. To get to the end of the day and feel like you’ve achieved something, that is what it means when we invest in people.”
Investors in People said its research highlighted a crisis in the UK’s workforce.
