Mental health trust probe ‘untoward incident’ which led to death of musician’s daughter
A mental health trust is carrying out a “sudden untoward incident” inquiry following the death of the daughter of trip hop star Tricky, a coroner has heard.
Mina Topley-Bird died aged 24 at West Park Hospital, Darlington, in May, an inquest was told.
She was the daughter of Tricky and singer Martina Topley-Bird and was a member of a music collective.
County Durham Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield, sitting at Crook Civic Centre, held a brief hearing to learn of progress made in the inquest process.
The coroner’s officer told him: “This is a lady that has passed away in West Park Hospital, Darlington.
“Tees Esk and Wear Valleys Mental Health Services are doing a sudden untoward incident investigation which is not due until October 21.”
The coroner adjourned the case for a further “mention hearing” on October 28.
Following his daughter’s death, Tricky wrote on Facebook: “I thought I knew what loss was, but now my daughter is gone I realise I had no idea what it was after all.
“It feels like I’m in a world that doesn’t exist, knowing nothing will ever be the same again.
“No words or text can really explain – my soul feels empty.”
