Aberdeen care home told to make urgent improvements
A care home for elderly people has been ordered by Scotland’s social care watchdog to make urgent improvements to the services it provides.
The Care Inspectorate has served a formal improvement notice on Grandholm Care Home in Aberdeen after an inspection raised “serious concerns”.
The home in Bridge of Don has been told to make immediate improvements to four areas of care, including making sure that residents have the right type and amount of food and drink provided to them.
It has been told to make the necessary changes by next Tuesday or risk possible cancellation of its registration.
The notice states the Care Inspectorate found the home “is not operating in accordance with the requirements of regulations” and gives notice that “unless there is significant improvement in provision of the service, it intends to make a proposal to cancel your registration” under the relevant Act.
The letter calls for systems to be put in place that ensure that all residents’ nutritional and hydration needs are being met.
Management at the home must also ensure that it has a system in place to ensure that any residents with wounds are regularly assessed, monitored and treated correctly.
Staff must also make sure all residents have their medicines administered to them as prescribed and make sure that medication does not run out of stock.
A Care Inspectorate spokesman said: “The improvement notice we have served on Grandhholm Care Home clearly lays out the changes we need to see so that the care provided to residents improves quickly.
“We are continuing to work closely with the provider and Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership to support improvement.
“We will visit this care home again soon to check on progress and if we are not satisfied that the matters raised are being addressed urgently we will not hesitate to take further action.”
