About this client/child: Adam (9), lives at home with his Mum, Dad, Sister (1½) and grandparents. Adam is a very active and happy boy. He loves to swim, play, go out for walks, attend his SEN school, go bowling, go out for hot chocolate and loves music and dancing. Adam dislikes loud noises and places with too many people. Adam has Cerebral Palsy, Global developmental delay, and epilepsy, although this is controlled with medication. Adam can walk short distances with support and uses a buggy for going out. His speech and understanding are significantly delayed and he can often shout or scream to vocalise and has little understanding of communication directed at him. The family are in the process of moving home and are staying in the same neighbourhood.
Overview of role: We are seeking two On-call night carers to support Adam throughout the night. The nighttime routine begins with a snack and milk and a massage to help relax Adam before his bedtime which is usually at 9.30pm. A carer’s bedroom will be provided once the family have moved house, and you will be alerted via a monitor if Adam requires assistance during the night. He can often have a disturbed night or go to sleep late or wake early. When he wakes, he may need a gentle massage to help him back to sleep, or he may need you to sit with him until he relaxes. You will be able to sleep in between times, and you will have access to a lounge and kitchen with facilities to make a drink. In the morning you may need to change bed sheets and assist Adam to shower, clean teeth and dress. Please note that there will be daytime training to get to know the children and family. We are looking for two on-call night carers to cover 7 days a week. Please state your availability/preferred nights of work when applying.
Who this job would suit: This role would suit someone who has a good understanding of what it is like to work within a family home, with experience supporting a client during the night/ with a learning and physical disability. You’ll be flexible and willing to cover colleagues’ shifts on occasions and be open to join the family on occasional, short trips away.
What’s great about this job: You will become part of a bigger team of staff that we are supporting this wonderful and loving family to create. Full training through Case Management will be given as well as professional support and supervision.
