Team Leader – Children’s Practice Team
South West Children’s Practice Team

Salary: £50,287 – £60,187 per year (plus an additional £1000 for possession of Child Protection Certificate)
Hours: 36 per week

Our Children and Families Practice Teams are committed to developing our practice and improve service delivery working with families to assist them to find solutions. Team Leaders play a key role in Children’s Practice Teams supervising and supporting the professional development of a small team of Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Social Work Assistants.

Team Leaders are part of a management team taking responsibility for delivering a high quality of service delivery, good outcomes for children and families, and high performance as well as playing a key role in service development.

The job includes a lead role in working with families with no recourse to public funds and also with unaccompanied asylum seeking children. The post holder will be required to give advice and guidance to the team, minute and chair panels to authorise funding to families and contribute to discussions with management about the needs of these groups. You will also be required to take a lead role in FGM with other professionals, attend meetings with CoSLA and the Home Office. Additionally, the post holder will need to keep records of unaccompanied asylum seeking children to be able to update CoSLA with information and respond to freedom of information requests.

The successful applicant will be experienced children and families’ social workers who have a sound knowledge of practice involving children in need of care and protection and looked after and accommodated children, will be able to work with others and have a strong interest in professional development. Candidates should also have experience of managing, supervising and/or mentoring social work personnel. It would be desirable if the post holder had experience of working with families with no recourse to public funds and also with unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

Applicants must hold a Diploma in Social Work or equivalent recognised by the SSSC.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
