Mental Health/ Learning Disability Support Worker – Swansea – Male-Only setting – FULL TIME
Your new company
Based in Swansea, my client is a male-only residential home for those with learning disabilities, mental health and complex needs. Each service user is supported by their support worker through tailored care plans, encouragement to complete their daily tasks and fun, active community days out such as: walking, swimming, going for food and shopping in Swansea.
As a well-established and person-centric company, you will be expected to have the view that this is the service users’ home, not your work place and aim with the best of your ability to provide enthusiastic and nurturing care to everyone you support. The main goal is to encourage individuality and independence for the service users, in turn, improving their quality of life. The nature of the service users’ complex needs means they can be challenging, so we are looking for resilient, understanding and compassionate support workers – is this you?
Your new role
As a support worker you will be expected to:
Engaging with the residents’ activities and encouraging independence
Guiding and nurturing residents to fulfil their goals
Safeguarding and protecting residents and ensuring wellbeing
Recognising when to intervene when faced with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour
Carrying out household tasks
Creating and storing records while complying with GDPR
Working as part of a highly active team
Elements of personal care and administering medication
Engaging in community activities around Swansea
What you’ll need to succeed
Experience within the job role
Resilience, self-motivation and the enthusiasm to engage with active residents
Excellent communication skills
Able to navigate a challenging situation
DBS on the update service is desired should you have it
