Main Function
To work as a team member providing a high level of care which is appropriate to the needs of the resident/client within the residential and day care setting. The general tasks required of Care Worker shall be as follows but variations in emphasis may occur in particular residential units.
Main Duties
Involvement in the general day to day care of the residents/clients as determined by the Unit Manager and Team Leaders.
Seek to acquire appropriate working knowledge of the needs of residents/clients and make contributions on this basis.
Contribute to the setting up of care plans in respect of each resident/client through careful observation, assessment and writing up of care plans and implementation of same under the management of a senior staff member. This involves fulfilment of the role of key worker.
Work on a rota basis involving day, evening, weekend and overnight cover.
Contribute to case conferences and other meetings, and the compiling of appropriate reports for all such meetings including reviews.
Involvement in such other professional duties as determined by the Unit Manager and senior staff team.
Undertake any training essential to your professional development in fulfilling the role of a Care Worker as determined by management staff.
Participate in regular supervision with senior staff.
Welcome families and visitors of residents/clients and encourage mutual contact with the resident/client (where it is in the best interest of the resident/client).
Administration of medication to residents/clients under the supervision of senior staff.
Participation in weekly staff meetings as determined by CrossReach.
Accompanying residents/clients, according to the wishes of each individual, to church and other Christian activities as determined by management staff within the unit.
Reading to residents/clients and assisting them with the writing of letters when required.
Ensuring that resident’s/client’s clothing is properly cared for. This includes adequate provision, reporting deficiencies, each item of clothing being clearly marked and identified as a specific resident’s/client’s own property and insuring that repairs to individual items of clothing are attended to immediately. The residents/clients have a right to choose their own clothing and where necessary under supervision and guidance of a staff member.
Primary health care duties of a staff member include facilitating and encouraging where appropriate a resident/client to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene including dental care. Any changes in a resident’s/client’s health should be reported to a management staff member immediately. This includes accidents or any unusual incidents.
Encouraging residents/clients to undertake tasks such as making their own beds, keeping bedrooms tidy etc.
Assist residents/clients to have a high quality of life and facilitate them to have choices in their lives and to develop personal interests and facilitate them in carrying through such interests e.g. going to the swimming pool, sports complex.
Encouraging resident/client to participate in community life and fulfil normal activities such as shopping.
To undertake other duties as may reasonably fall within the parameters of the post as delegated by the Unit Manager or Team Leader.
Have respect for all aspects of Christian worship.
Facilitate service users to attend Christian worship (or worship of choice).
