Support Officer (Disability)
Seaview Children’s Unit
Salary: £24,890 – £28,854 per year
Hours: 36 per week
This post comprises off shift and weekend work over seven days
The team offers respite, behaviour support and outreach to vulnerable babies, children and young people who have a learning disability and/or challenging behaviour and/or severe and complex health care needs and/or life limiting conditions, and their families.
The team play an important role in facilitating and enabling disabled children to remain at home with their families.
We provide service in their own homes, within the community or within a group resource. This can include emotional and practical support to both child and parents, supporting inclusion, and/or carrying out sensitive and intimate interventions determined by the child’s condition.
This is a challenging and rewarding career which includes training opportunities.
You would be required to undertake lone working and tasks such as care planning, attendance at reviews and similar forums. You will also be required to work alongside other colleagues within family home or in the community.
Manual Handling, medication administration including emergency medication, feeding and personal care tasks.
The post also involves offering emotional and practical support to the family at times of crisis.
Qualifications for post require candidates to be qualified to HNC in Social Care and/or Childcare and Education/ SVQ3 level.
Conditions of the post require SSSC registration.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
