We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Mental Health Officer to join our established specialist MHO Team to support us in delivering a MHO service in Perth and Kinross. You will be working directly with service users with mental health and/or capacity issues and their families and carers. You will undertake designated Mental Health Officer duties under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment)(Scotland) Act 2003, the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and other relevant legislation, including the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007. You will also have a role in providing social work support for adults who are subject to formal measures under the 2003 Act. In addition to carrying a caseload, you will be involved with the MHO duty system, including some Out of Hours MHO duty work. You will be experienced in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals, carers, and other agencies, and will be experienced in developing and sustaining inter-agency working relationships. The team is currently operating a hybrid working arrangement with a combination of home/office based working which can be negotiated to meet the needs of both individual and the service.  

The Individual

You should hold a degree in Social Work, or equivalent, and be a professionally registered practitioner, as per SSSC requirements. You should also hold a Mental Health Officer qualification and have recent experience of MHO work. You will have the specialist knowledge and skills to undertake MHO work and have the ability to effectively manage a busy caseload, working to timescales and managing competing demands. You will have excellent written, IT and verbal communication skills and demonstrate skills and experience in assessment, preparation of reports and applications, and presentation to legal hearings. You will be highly motivated, innovative and flexible in your approach, as well as clear and concise in both your written and verbal communication. You must have a genuine interest in working with people in a recovery focussed way to improve their mental health and wellbeing. You will be expected to travel efficiently between various work locations. Due to the rural nature of Perth and Kinross, this is normally undertaken by car/pool car. A driving licence is therefore required.
