An exciting opportunity has arisen with a Fixed Term project role within the Mental Health Social Work Team. This post offers real opportunities to contribute to service delivery and development within Mental Health Adult Services on a single and multi-agency/disciplinary basis by focusing on key areas of development in relation to supporting and promoting a rights based approach to mental health practice with a clear focus on promotion of Powers of Attorney and Advanced Statements. The role will offer the opportunity to link in extensively with allied professionals to provide safe, efficient, and beneficial intervention to individuals diagnosed with severe and enduring mental disorder.
Your primary responsibility will be to work alongside individuals’ that have experienced inpatient care for mental health treatment and those newly diagnosed with severe and enduring mental disorder, who are identified as requiring support to adapt and manage their diagnosis.

This post will require a motivated, dynamic individual, who is able to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. You will have the skill and experience to engage in multi-disciplinary settings and offer a strong social work value base.
A good working knowledge of Self-Directed Support is essential as well as awareness of relevant legislation in particular the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000. Experience of working in a health or social services setting is essential and a good working knowledge of the Mosaic system is desirable. Knowledge and experience of working with mental disorder would be beneficial.
You will be based in Dumfries and will work within the Mental Health Team which is a region wide team with work in all localities within the region. You will work alongside other social workers in the team as well as mental health officers and care co-ordinators. You will be part of a supportive and energetic team, where you will receive excellent support and supervision.
You will be a qualified social worker, a DipSW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post and you will be expected to use Dumfries and Galloway Pool cars for any travelling required. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
This post is fixed term for up to 6 months.
