West Dumfries and Galloway, Stewartry and Newton Stewart
£32,004.5 – £34,430
You will be required to work 33 hours per week, 52.14 weeks.
We are looking for a qualified Social Worker to join our busy rural Children & Families Social Work Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative person with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children. Our West Team is divided into 4 smaller teams; Duty, and 3 longer term teams across Wigtownshire and Stewartry.
There is an opportunity for Social Workers to develop skills and interests within the team. If successful you would be working closely with colleagues including the Family Support Service and other agencies. We have introduced Signs of Safety in Dumfries and Galloway which means we work closely with families to help them develop their own Safety Plans with the support of their Family Networks.
The main challenges we face as a team are substance misuse, domestic violence, isolation and access to services. During the Covid -19 pandemic we have seen an increase in referrals of neglect.
As we are a very rural team covering a large geographical area we are supporting team members to work in a flexible and agile way, office base can be discussed.
Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful rural area with many different small towns and villages, a scenic coastline and hills. There are lots of sporting opportunities available including a range of mountain bike trails. Stranraer has good transport links to Belfast and Glasgow and from Dumfries travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle is easy.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
