Social Worker
West Dumfries and Galloway: Stewartry/ Newton Stewart
£32,004.5 – £34,430
You will be required to work 33 hours per week, 52.14 weeks
We are looking for a Social Worker to join our busy rural Children & Families Social Work Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative person with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children. Our West Team is divided into 4 smaller teams; Duty, and 3 long-term teams.
This post would be working with families mainly in the Stewartry area but as far to the West as Newton Stewart. There are opportunities for Social Workers within our team to develop skills and particular interests. You will closely with other team members, the Family Support Service and colleagues from other services. In 2019 we introduced Signs of Safety to help us work effectively with families, all staff have been trained and are supported in using tools to develop safety plans with families.
In addition to the current challenges from Covid-19, the main difficulties the families we work with include substance misuse, domestic violence, isolation and access to services.
As we are a very rural team covering a large geographical area we support team members to work in a flexible and agile way, your office base can be discussed.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
