The vision for the National Mental Health Strategy 2017-2027 is of a Scotland where people can get the right help at the right time, expect recovery, and fully enjoy their rights, free from discrimination and stigma. The aim of the strategy is to achieve parity between mental health and physical health. Action 15 of this Strategy makes a commitment to increase the workforce to give access to dedicated mental health professionals within four key settings, including every police station custody suite.
The Crisis Intervention Practitioner will be involved in the delivery of an out of hours Crisis Intervention and Support Service for people who are experiencing mental health and wellbeing issues and have had contact with the justice system (e.g. Police Scotland). The Crisis Intervention worker will be an experienced practitioner and will have the skills and knowledge to assess and screen situations to identify the appropriate level of intervention required. The service that the individual receives will be tailored to their specific needs, with follow on support arranged as required.
