Duration: Fixed Term Maternity cover, Part Time 18.5 hours
Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
Job purpose/about the role
Exciting opportunity has arisen for a social worker to join the join the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital social work service, within the Intake Service. The Intake Service responds to all new Child Care and Protection referrals within Aberdeen City. The Maternity Hospital social work service also includes a Pre-Birth Team of paraprofessionals who wrap around the work offered by the mainstream service assisting to offer a high quality intervention and assessment of the families of unborn and newly born babies where there are care and protection concerns. The work is fast paced, but rewarding, and relies on a clear understanding of the National Practice Model GIRFEC, as well as a sound knowledge of Child Protection, within the field of Children’s Services. Applicants must have good communication skills and should be committed to or have experience of multi-agency working. The successful applicant will be able to offer a highly effective social work intervention in the pre-birth period, with the aim on building on strengths within families to reduce the risk identified. Case work will involve working with vulnerable unborn babies and their families, progressing intervention until Child Protection plans can be established &/or until statutory measures are implemented, or may involve intervention on a shorter-term basis until universal services can resume responsibility for the child.
