Social care is a challenging and rewarding career.
Prevention Team care staff work with some of Edinburgh’s older and more vulnerable citizens, people from different backgrounds and of all abilities. You will help people who have been assessed as having no acute medical need, but have an urgent requirement to access care provision to enable them to remain at home. This is a short term service to work with people who may require assistance from the Hospital at Home service, as well as a care element until they can return to their baseline. The Team works with people to prevent their unnecessary admission to hospital where there is no medical need to do so. This enables them to remain at home to continue to live full and valued lives, promoting and encouraging independence where possible. Where it has not been possible for a person to return to their baseline further long term services will be sought.
You will undertake risk assessments and assist people with their personal care such as bathing and dressing, support with catheter and/or stoma where required, provision of meals and administration of medication.
We can offer you an opportunity of a career working with people, training and development and a nationally recognised qualification. Good rates of pay, excellent holidays, a generous pension scheme and a range of staff benefits are all part of the package.
A full driving licence is essential as well as the use of a car for work. You can register as an essential driver and become eligible to claim work related mileage at 0.45p per mile.
Successful applicants will be aligned to one specific Locality, however will be expected to travel within the City of Edinburgh boundaries to cover visits in other Localities as and when required.
Additional working time payments will apply, depending on the exact shift patterns worked. For a full-time post working various day shifts (across seven days) additional payments of around £2,500 a year would apply.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
