Senior Social Worker
Salary: £37,589 – £44,934 (pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 36 per week
To ensure that a high quality of social work practice is provided and maintained, and that appropriate services are delivered to meet People’s needs within the Council’s statutory obligations, policies and procedures.
To provide professional support, supervision and leadership to a group of social work staff, whilst maintaining a direct involvement in social work practice.
To ensure that the team is responsive, and needs led.
To represent and promote the Council at multi-agency meetings and with local community groups and be the key department representative at hospital discharge and risk planning forums.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.

Working within a community or hospital based practice team
Multidisciplinary working Experience of adult protection work
Knowledge of current legislation and policy Good communication skills
Ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines Computer/IT literate
Degree in Social Work or equivalent registration with the Scottish Social Services Council
Adult Protection – requires experience as Council Officer
Recognises and works within professional boundaries Ability to gather and/or analyse complex information and prioritise an appropriate response.
An ability to keep and maintain accurate electronic records of work
A willingness to learn and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Managing allocation of work within the team.
Wide experience of working with all community care groups
Supervision of staff
PRD and staff development
Knowledge of systems used within Health and Social Care Partnership.
The ability to recognise and challenge poor performance and to motivate and support staff in maintaining high performance.
