Dumfries & Galloway’s Centralised Services team are seeking a Senior Social Worker to lead our Leaving Care Team. This is a 36 hour per week post which is based in the Dumfries Office. This is a region wide team providing a comprehensive service to care leavers up to 26 years of age. We are looking for an experienced child and family’s social worker or manager to join a strong and established team operating across the region. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative person with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for young people transitioning to adulthood.
You will be working in a busy and supportive Leaving Care Team, supervising leaving care workers who support young people to develop their independent living skills to assist their transition from childhood into adulthood. A key aspect of this post will be the development of Policy and Procedure in the development and improvement of the service in line with National initiatives and good practice.
You will work with staff in the development and delivery of training and support to accommodation providers and partner agencies who deliver services for Care Leavers. You will manage and supervise a staff team of leaving care workers while undertaking duties in accordance with Continuing Care, Throughcare and Aftercare legislation, and meeting the needs of Care Inspectorate requirements while supporting young people living in Supported Lodgings arrangements. You will also carry out all other statutory duties associated with the post. Key to this process is working in partnership with service users and other key stakeholders and professionals. We are committed to the continuing professional development of staff and will support you with training requirements and by regular supervision.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
